Cats gained weight despite being on new diet – help?

Hello,

I adopted two female 8-year old cats at the beginning of the summer. The old owner used to feed them one full cup of bad dry food once a day in the morning and the cats were at a decent weight. When I took over the cats, slowly their begging got me to feed them a little extra at night. Then I tried switching to Purina One Healthy Weight dry food and they did that for a while. Then I started reading that I should be feeding them a higher-grade food, so I switched to EVO Core Dry food (which is grain free) and also started giving them some wet food too. But at the recommended amount that they suggested to get the cats to lose some weight. I am only feeding the cats 3 to 4 ounces of food total a day, yet they have ballooned up to 13 or more pounds.

I seriously have a digital scale, and measure out their meals. I am reading literature and listening to all the advice about cat food that I get. Each cat gets one ounce of dry food in the morning, then one ounce of wet food when I come home from work, and then around midnight they get another ounce of dry food, sometimes they get a little more wet food in between. In any case it comes out to 1/2 cup of food or less a day. Meanwhile we play chase the string to burn off calories as well (admittedly I can only play for 20 minutes a day really.)

In any case they just seem to be gaining weight. One cat is fat and feels like she is solid as a rock.

I just want to get these cats under 12 lbs so they arent obese. So what do you suggest I try next?

Shotshell reloading and more?

I have my lee load all 2 setup and I have some ADI as30n powder. Problem is that I dont know about the powder charge bushings. I went to the ADI website and looked at the shotgun powder bushing charts and they show an average of grains of the powder to the bushing. Now the .141 bushing supposed to give me 16 grains of powder. I dont have a powder scale but I did use this grains to grams converter http://www.unitconversion.org/weight/grams-to-grains-conversion.html 16 grains = 1.03678256 grams.
I do have a digital scale that weighs grams oz dwt and ozt (which idk what ozt means)
I put the .141 bushing in filled the powder into a shell (prescaled the shell so it was zeroed) and it weighed 1 gram. I did it a few more and the results were pretty close. Would it be safe to say that the .141 = 16 grains aprox and just for safety use a slightly smaller bushing for a desired grains for a load? Im new to this too and I dont feel like getting blown up and I cant afford powder scales at this time. The shot size bushings for the bbs are correct too. I only want to shoot 1oz or less. 12ga 2 3/4 I hope I made it fairly clear and someone who does reload shotshells and know what they are talking about can help. Thanks.
I just measured a 40 grain 22.r bullet and it weighed 2.6 grams and then used that converter and put 2.6grams and it came up with 40.124131718 grains
and some other comparasons and it all adds up just fine. Seems correct to me.
