What do I do if…. Please help me

I go a psp battery and when I put it in my psp and put the charger in, it will charge the battery, but the battery itself won’t power my psp.
It shows the little battery icon in the top right but that’s only if it is plugged into the wall.
Also if you go to the battery information it doensnd say anything about the battery, and it says that the power source it external.
